The W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University was ranked 21st among U. S. undergraduate business programs, and five of its majors are among the top 25, according to the 2004 "America's Best Colleges," published by U.S.News & World Report.
Compared to other business schools based at public institutions, the W. P. Carey School is 14th in the nation. Specializations that made the top 25 include supply chain management (5), management information systems (17), marketing (17), management (24) and accountancy (24).
The news arrived just as students were arriving on campus.
"I'm going to enjoy telling our new students that the school they picked continues to get the recognition it deserves," said Interim Dean Philip Regier, who will speak at tomorrow's orientation.
"In the past few years the undergraduate experience at the W. P. Carey School has been transformed. We've re-engineered the curriculum so that our students are prepared for a global and technology-oriented workplace, and we've created many opportunities for them to develop leadership skills," Regier added. "We believed that our rankings would climb as soon as we had a name to spotlight the excellence we had already achieved. It's nice to see it happening."
The W. P. Carey School of Business received a powerful boost in February with the announcement of a $50 million endowment from benefactor and namesake Wm. Polk Carey. The university has designated land near the intersection of University and Mill for a new business complex. Meantime, the school is expanding programs and adding to faculty.
