Mr. Barzelay joined W. P. Carey & Co. in 2004 as the Firm’s General Counsel. In his role, Mr. Barzelay oversees the Company’s in-house legal affairs and provides counsel to senior management on issues related to the Company’s day-to-day business practices.
Prior to joining W. P. Carey, Mr. Barzelay was a partner of Patterson, Belknap, Webb & Tyler, LLP, since 1995 where he practiced corporate and securities law and dealt with international transactions, mergers and acquisitions. From 1986 through 1995, he held several positions at Dime Bancorp, Inc. including as General Counsel from 1989 through 1995, where he was responsible for all legal affairs of the company and its in-house legal department. Before joining Dime, Mr. Barzelay practiced law with Breed Abbot & Morgan and Battle Fowler in New York. He graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School and cum laude from Yale University. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1974.
